As I ponder upon what my next meal will be, I also wonder how many people know that snacking is essential to maintaining a healthy weight. I can't tell you how many times I've heard people talking about snacking as if it's such a vice! Snacking helps to keep metabolism at a steady pace, prevents you from gorging at other meals, and keeps your energy up throughout the day.. that is, if you choose the right snacks. I chose sunflower seeds and strawberries as my third mini- meal today because the sunflower seeds are a good source of protein, good fats and B-Complex vitamins while the strawberries are a hydrating source of vitamin C and other antioxidants. They're the perfect energy- boosting combo! Create other winning snack combos by swapping the sunflower seeds for other kinds of seeds or nuts like pumpkin, walnuts or almonds, and the strawberries for blueberries, blackberries, cranberries, or other fruits. Enjoy!

I now use yoga to revitalize my tired body and mind, to strengthen, to relax, to focus, to energize, to inspire and more. There are countless benefits to yoga aside from the obvious from alleviation from common physical ailments to mental and emotional. It's not only about the practice of yoga, but about the lifestyle too.. Yoga promotes healthy eating and lifestyle habits, which really interested me when I was promoting my platform Healthy Habits for Life as Ms. United States 2008. Yoga is all about mind- body- spirit balance, and that is what I love the most. I guess I had to mature a bit to understand that yoga is way more than just stretching...and to gain the patience to learn that. ;)

Try this delicious vanilla mate latte instead of your regular coffee latte for some afternoon energy and reap slimming benefits without the jitters of coffee!
Steep some lose yerba mate leaves in a teapot (the kind made for loose tea leaves w/ strainer)
Combine the following:
1) 1 cup yerba mate
2) 1/2 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract
3) Stevia (an all- natural 0 calorie sweetener) to taste.
4) 1 teaspoon of organic cream.
FYI: Cream is not "bad" for you, contrary to the "fat free theories" of the 1980's. Do your research, and you'll find that organic unhomogenized dairy actually has health benefits, not pitfalls. I recommend Kat James' book "The Truth About Beauty" for some fascinating insight into nutrition and beauty.
